Sandra Hynes Phelan of Westbrook Maine was taken home by the lord on February 3, 2022. Sandy was born in Portland Maine on October 22, 1938. She moved to Tewksbury, MA to live with her aunt, uncle, and their son Robert Hall to help the family during World War II. She lived here for many years. She taught Sunday school through high school in Tewksbury before graduating in 1956. In 1959 she married Francis (Frank) Phelan. Sandy did a lot of charity work. She was a founder of Agape center in Maynard, MA and then continued to work as a project manager for four years there. Sandra moved back to Maine in 1972 where she started her journey as a single mother of four.
Sandra was loved for her wit, her humor, and her always forgiving heart. She loved her mystery books, her Fox News, and her dog Charlie. You could always count on her having a coffee in the microwave that needed to be warmed up again and famously rubbing her hands together while smiling when she got excited about something. Matching outfits with jewelry, shoes, and eyeglasses was always a priority of hers. Sandra’s love for her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren was unconditional and endless. She was the glue of the family and spent most of her efforts doing whatever she could for all of them. Sandra’s heart extended to her family’s friends as well. She was known as another mom and another gram to many, always welcoming whoever needed a place to stay, into her home.
Sandra was a strong believer in God and her faith. Although she was full of life, death never did scare her. She awaited the day she would join her loved ones in Heaven.
