Shirley passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of April 8th, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the youngest of 11 children, Born to Adelor and Jennie Bearor in Madison Maine.
She is preceded by her loving husband Richard Reid and their beloved dog chika.
She is survived by her daughters Cindy McLean and Donna Wilkinson, granddaughters Sadie Rioux and Aubrey Wilkinson and great grandchildren Jalyn, Gage and Maxwell Rioux.
Shirley graduated a proud bulldog from Madison high school as a star athlete on the girls basketball team. Her and her school friends remained close throughout their lives. She married her high school sweetheart, Dick, in 1953 and they spent the rest of their loving, adventurous and borderline crazy years together. From Madison, they moved to New Jersey before finally settling down in the Dry Mills corner of Gray, Maine, where she met her life long friends.
Shirley enjoyed coaching girls basketball at Newbegin, before becoming an active member of the youth club.
She was a teachers aide at Russell School for over 30 years, and remained close with her teaching friends even into her final days. After her retirement from the school, she enjoyed wintering on the warm sunny beaches of Ormond, Florida. But there was nothing that mattered to Shirley more than her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her world, and she loved them with everything she had. She spent her remaining years enjoying dance recitals and sports games. You could always find her cheering them on from the sideline as their number one fan.
Shirley never missed opportunity to celebrate a holiday or special occasion. The elaborate decorations, parties with friends and family, and special traditions that she nurtured will be carried on for years to come.
Shirley was truly the strongest woman to ever exist on this earth. Her strength, determination and passion for life, kept her going til the end, along with a little help from Allen’s coffee brandy. She lived a very full, loving and beautiful life and will be truly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her, and be loved by her.
Details for her Celebration of Life to be announced.
