Stephen John Plummer October 1, 1948 – December 2, 2025. Steve passed away at home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. Stephen John Plummer is lovingly celebrated by all who knew him. Born in Portland, Maine on October 1, 1948, he was the son of Dr. Vernon S. Plummer and Irene Woodbury Plummer of South Portland. And Step-mother Estelle Plummer. Steve was the younger brother of Vernon S. Plummer II (deceased), and is survived by his brother William A. Plummer of Gray, ME, and his sister Victoria A. Plummer of Westbrook, ME. Steve is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 30 years, Suzanne Bowen of South Portland. His greatest joy was his family, including his three beloved children, their spouses, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His eldest son, Andrew W. Plummer, and wife Leslie blessed him with grandsons Jacob and Joshua. His daughter, Stephanie D. Plummer Sheaffer, and husband Matthew, gave him grandson Brennen and wife Hunter, grandson Jaden, grandson Landon, and granddaughter Brieana. His son, Jonathan R. Plummer, and wife Paula, brought him grandson Aaron and granddaughter Victoria. Steve was also cherished by his step-grandson Kameron Shaw, and his great-grandchildren Piper and Hayden Plummer. Steve was a 1967 graduate of Gray–New Gloucester High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. A dedicated and skilled optician, he owned and operated Coastal Opticians from 1973 to 1985, and continued his career in optical sales until his retirement in 2020. Steve married the love of his life, Suzy Bowen, and together they made their home in South Portland before returning to Gray upon retirement. Their life together was filled with deep love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Steve’s passions were many—golfing with friends, flying, woodworking, watercolor painting, classic cars and racing with his sons and grandsons, and boating along the Maine coast. But above all, Steve’s wife Suzy and his family were the heart of his world. His greatest contentment came from the time he spent surrounded by those he loved most. Steve will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet strength, his devotion to family, and the joy he brought to every chapter of his life. His legacy lives on in the generations who adored him. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to: Northern Light Home Care & Hospice https://give.northernlighthealth.org/campaign/651218/donate or PO Box 931 Bangor 04402.
