On Wednesday March 4 th , 2026, Virginia “Jinny” Dyke passed away peacefully at her
home in Gray with family nearby at her side. Jinny was born in Farmington Maine on
July 20, 1947. Being raised in New Vineyard she learned the values of family life and
acquired a vast knowledge of the outdoors and very much enjoyed nature for the
remainder of her life. In ’62 she met her soon-to-be husband Wayne and moved to
Auburn. Married in ’63, she soon gave birth to her first child Tori in ’64. In ’68 she gave
birth to her second child Jody. They moved to Gray in ’65 where they remained to raise
their children. She very much enjoyed her lifelong career as a hairdresser and acquired
many lifelong friends and acquaintances through this. She was very much an avid drag
racer running her Dodge Dart 383 at Oxford and enjoyed showing up the “guys” at the
reaction lights. She also mastered the art of genealogy long before the introduction of
the internet and had both family lines researched back to England and Belgium. She
enjoyed spending time at her camp in New Vineyard on the mill pond sitting around the
campfire with family and friends from the area. She had a vast variety of plants and
gardens at her home in Gray and could keep them alive for years. She and Wayne
spent years traveling up and down the east coast visiting all the attractions and the
many historical sites along the way. They also spent their weekends driving their
perfectly restored ’64 Chevelle around the state to various car shows. She was
predeceased by her husband Wayne in ‘07 and leaves behind her two children Tori,
Jody and wife Lisa, several grandchildren Ben and wife Meghan, Heath, Andrew and
wife Caitlin, Caitlyn, Zachary, Stephanie and Todd. She also leaves behind 9 great
grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and roll model and will be dearly missed by
all who knew her. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the near future.
